2024 Democratic National Convention
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) is widely expected to be a transformative technology - affecting nearly every aspect of the economy, national security, and public safety. The Center for AI Policy (CAIP) is a public advocacy organization that works to develop and enact policies to mitigate catastrophic AI risks. Our work is entirely funded by donors who share our mission to improve AI governance.
Artificial intelligence (AI) holds both incredible promise and severe peril. We urge Congress to act quickly to establish a framework for this powerful technology, using existing and novel tools, that will keep Americans safe.
In the short term, we urge Members of Congress to enact policies to bolster public safety - like strengthening America's cybersecurity posture and emergency preparedness. As AI capabilities increase, we must recalibrate the AI regulatory environment and shift the regulatory emphasis to the technologies that pose the greatest safety risks.

We’re a small, DC-based team of former AI researchers and policy professionals. We work with a wide network of experts from industry, academia, think tanks, government, and nonprofits. You can read more about us here.
We launched CAIP to address the urgent need for effective AI governance. Our founder Thomas previously researched technical methods to make advanced AI safe. At the time, very few researchers were sharing these safety insights with policymakers. CAIP is now helping close that gap.
We’re supported by donors who share our mission to improve AI governance. We are completely independent and nonpartisan, and we do not accept industry funding.
We’re always looking for people to join our team and support our work. We also regularly engage with stakeholders across AI and policy, and we would love to hear from you if you have questions, feedback, or ideas for collaborations.
