Policy Advocacy Network

The Center for AI Policy (CAIP) is proud to work with Congressional offices to support legislation that reduces the catastrophic risks from AI.

There is strong bipartisan support among the American public for AI safety enforcement. According to a Pew Research poll, 58% of Americans are concerned that federal regulation of AI “will not go far enough,” compared to only 21% who are concerned that federal regulation “will go too far.” Part of our mission at the Center for AI Policy (CAIP) is to support grassroots organizing to make sure the voice of that 58% majority is heard on Capitol Hill.

To that end, the Policy Advocacy Network (PAN) seeks to engage, organize and mobilize student-led AI safety organizations from universities across the country. The goal of the network is to train future AI developers, researchers, and engineers to become compelling policy advocates. Member organizations are supported to build interactive demonstrations intended to highlight specific capabilities, risks and vulnerabilities of advanced AI. Teams then present these demonstrations to important stakeholders, policymakers and elected leaders. The network encourages students to utilize their technical expertise in practical and tangible ways while also empowering them to become active voices for meaningful policy solutions. Students also have the opportunity to network and collaborate with peers from other research institutions as well as influential policy experts in DC. The network has 25 current member organizations representing over 150 individual student members and is growing rapidly.
