CAIP work
Engagements and conversations that shape the future of AI governance and legislative action.
The Center for AI Policy (CAIP) hosted a variety of events to educate members of Congress and staff about the catastrophic risks posed by AI and to raise awareness of the scale and speed of the likely problems.
Our panel briefing series brought together experts from different perspectives to discuss particular aspects of AI; for example, our briefing on AI and education included an award-winning educator, an edtech startup director, the AI policy manager for the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), and a think tank researcher. We find that a very wide range of topics – music, energy, agriculture, cybersecurity, and more – all have intersections with AI that are worth exploring and that shed light on how and why to manage AI’s risks.
We also have some special events, such as our tabletop exercise with first responders, where the directors of 911 centers practiced responding to deepfakes and other AI-generated threats, and our ‘Advanced AI Demo Day’, where AI safety teams from 14 universities across the country came and presented interactive exhibits that allowed Congressional members, legislative staffers and other government and private sector leaders to see for themselves how AI can design bioweapons, seize control of armed drones, and control humanoid robots.
